Tariqa Al Tijani, the believers in Darfur

Tariqa Al Tijani the Believers
By Giorgio Trombatore

I met for the first time Tariqa Al Tijani people in Garba Intifada (a suburb near Nyala) in december 2004.
The internal war of Darfur was devastating entire villages and in this remote area of Nyala I met the followers of Tijani.
They were giving shelter to all the homeless people and as well all the refugees in the area trying to heal their sufferings.

I visited their mosque, their houses and bit by bit I met all of their religious representatives.

Finally one day I met Sheich Musa, the leader of Tariqa Al Tijani in Darfur. He was a quite man and we started a great relation.

In the beginning we helped his community with food and dresses but little by little we better organized our aid trying to improve their living condition with better water and sanitation facilities.

Then in 2005 we constructed after many difficulties an Hospital, that was called Avamposto 55 and it is located nearby the airport of Nyala.
In the entrance of the Hospital a board reminds the visitors that this Hospital is for the Tariqa Al Tijani people.
Today the Hospital is fuctioning and regarded as one of the best for the services and as well the maintenace.
It is a great service for the people of Darfur since the civil war is still going on.
